High seas bottom trawling: we know enough, says the EU

Friends attending at UN Headquarters in New York this week's Working Group on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction have brought some good news: the European Union (which until now has not been very supportive, to say the least, of the proposed moratorium on high seas bottom trawling) is now saying that there is enough science to act on the side of precaution.

It's going to be a long year for the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition set up to promote the high seas moratorium.

But with the EU statement, we're up to a good start.
