I've arrived yesterday in Barcelona for the World Conservation Congress where the Pew Environment Group asked me to coordinate their delegation. Organized by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the congress opens officially tomorrow.
The IUCN has chosen to use on their website photos of sparring animals to illustrate the spirit of this gathering of over 8000 people with very broad and sometimes diverging interests in Nature management and conservation. I'm not an ethologist, so I'm not sure if these animals are sparring for territory or sparring for mating. We'll see.
