Shrinking support

Interesting remarks in today's Sidney Morning Herald by Tomohiko Taniguchi, a Japanese Foreign Affairs official who's wondering if he wouldn't have had anything better to do to protect the interests of his country, than spending three years defending the economically insignificant Japanese whaling industry [US$120 Million per year in revenue, 0.0014% of Japan's economy]

"Escalation could damage the interests of Australia as well as Japan", says Taniguchi at the end of the piece. An important message to both Japanese and Westerners, I believe.
